[185] Just Around The Bend

I passed the wave rolling to shore

and thought I saw the sun

slide behind its wall

a sandy wind followed me

to the rocky edge of day

I thought I saw you

through the corner of my eye

—as I passed the Grotto Palazzese,

holding up a glass of red wine

through candles lighting up the sky

But it was just a dream from a movie frame

that I have seen many times before

and I was the main character and you,

my hero—enrapturing me like a

moonrise when darkeness falls

And then the light peered

through my window pane

and morning woke me—gently,

so I could see once more

But I ran through my door,

down the wooden steps

passed the wave rolling to shore

a gentle wind followed me

to the softness of the dunes

and there I laid my head

and closed my sunstruck eyes

waiting for the candlelight

of the Grotto Palazzese

so I could, once again, transcend

for my hero, I knew, would be

—just around the bend.
